Technical information about this website’s accessibility

Leicester City Council is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non compliance with the accessibility regulations

The form is inaccessible because it:

  • has not been fully marked up in groups and fieldsets. This doesn’t meet WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1 (info and relationships) and 3.3.2 (labels or instructions).
  • has groups which have not been named with an aria-label. This doesn’t meet WCAG 2.1 success criterion 3.3.2 (labels or instructions
  • has aria-labels which may not accurately describe the interface control (e.g. using IDs rather than user-friendly text). This doesn’t meet WCAG 4.1.2 (name, role, value)
  • uses inline CSS in the HTML to style elements. This doesn’t meet WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.3.1 (info and relationships)
  • is difficult to navigate using a keyboard alone. Users may need assistance from somebody using a mouse to complete the form. This doesn’t meet WCAG 2.1 success criterion 2.1.1 (keyboard)

We plan to have these accessibility issues fixed by Spring 2020.

PDFs and other documents

We are aware that the PDFs which are generated by the system (for example, the PDF copy of form answers) are currently inaccessible. This is because they:

  • have not been tagged properly to indicate reading order
  • do not have a primary language set
  • do not have an appropriate title set
  • do not have appropriate labels, alt text, nesting and tags set in all places.

We plan to have these accessibility issues fixed by Spring 2020.

How we test this website

The Web Management Team perform internal testing periodically and act upon user feedback when we receive it.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

We are continually working to make improvements to this website.
